When you return your CRV-eligible beverage containers, you’re doing good for the planet and putting money back in your pocket!
How CRV Works for You
The CRV program involves customers paying a small fee when purchasing eligible beverages (like drinks in aluminum, glass, plastic, bi-metal, or even wine and spirit boxes and pouches). You then redeem your deposit when you bring empty containers back to your local recycling site. Knowing the rules ensures you get your full cash back.
Did You Know You Can Ask to Be Paid by Count?
In addition to payment by weight, you can ask to be paid by count. Upon request, certified recycling sites must pay you by the count for up to 50 containers of each material type per transaction. That means you can bring 50 aluminum cans, 50 plastic bottles, and 50 glass bottles in one go and expect individual payment for every single one!
Report If You Experience a Problem. Here’s How.
If a certified recycling site refuses to pay you by the count for up to 50 containers of a specific material, or violates any other CRV program requirement, the power is in your hands! Reporting such issues maintains the program’s integrity for all Californians.
By recycling your bottles and cans, you’re not just pocketing a little extra cash, you’re also reducing waste and conserving resources. Recycling helps cut down on pollution, saves energy, and reduces the need for new materials. Every container you recycle is one less piece of trash in the landfill, and every dollar you earn is a small reward for helping California stay green.
