We all know the drill for redeeming beverage container deposits on items like aluminum cans and plastic water bottles. But there are even more surprising ways to earn cash back hiding in plain sight! California’s Redemption Value (CRV) program makes it easier than ever to turn more of your empty beverage containers into positive environmental impact and personal savings.

Here are three surprising container types you might be overlooking:

  • Glass Wine and Spirit Bottles qualify for 5 or 10 cents back.
  • Wine and Spirit Boxes, Pouches, and Bladders are now CRV-eligible. Don’t toss them – start collecting and returning them at recycling sites for 25 cents each.
  • Larger Plastic Beverage Containers such as those 24-ounce or larger bottles (think juices, teas, and similar beverages) earn a full 10 cents.  Be sure to include these bigger items to maximize your CRV refunds.

Use these guides for the container types you can bring to your local recycling site for cash back.

By recycling your bottles and cans, you’re not just pocketing a little extra cash; you’re thinking beyond the bin. Every container you recycle is one less piece of trash in the landfill, and every dollar you earn is a small reward for helping California stay green.
