CalRecycle was honored to join the Oakland community at the 9th annual Black Joy Parade on February 22, 2026. Held during Black History Month each year, the parade is a vibrant display of creativity, resilience, and the contributions of Black and African American communities.

Our Recycling Reimagined team connected with the community to share practical, everyday ways to protect the environment through composting and recycling. The goal was to show how simple actions can create lasting impact in the places we live, work, and gather.

Hands-on demonstrations showed how daily habits can make a meaningful difference, from separating food scraps for composting to bringing beverage containers to local recycling sites for cash. These small steps add up to big change.

Improving our planet’s health is not a solo effort. It’s a community effort. Events like the Black Joy Parade spark connection, learning, and action. When we compost our food scraps and redeem CRV beverage containers at recycling sites, we’re helping containers, neighborhoods, and the environment thrive for generations to come.
